I like the idea of blogging random memories from the past (as long as I don't go back too far). As it is anti-valentines day on Sunday and inspired by Vegemitevix's Girl Guide in Paris I thought I would blog about how the hubby and I got together.
We met at University. It was my first year when I was still in student halls sharing with 6 other girls. A bunch of us had been given the opportunity to make some money stuffing leaflets into folders. We had all spent the afternoon holed up in a room doing this. I think we made £15 for doing it which was great considering I was living off £5 a week at the time (early 90's in case you're wondering)
As I am an idiot, I decided to treat my friends and spend my £15 on buying ingredients for a slap-up dinner party. Totally possible because I only shopped at Aldi's at that time. Everyone went their own way and left me to cook with instructions to return at 7pm for dinner. Everyone gathered for dinner. Now we had some really complex relationships going on. Let me try and explain.
Miss S my flat mate had slept with Mr M who I fancied and he no longer was interested in her.
Miss R had a thing about my future hubby. My future hubby had nothing for her. Miss R tried to get it off with Mr A to make my future hubby jealous.
I had a thing about my future hubby.
So Miss R turned up an hour late. I got stubborn and decided it was important that everyone was there for dinner so insisted we waited. By the time Miss R arrived dinner was burnt. I took some food through and went back to get something from the kitchen. On my return I discovered Mr M playing the "bounce the potatoes off the wall" game. I was not impressed.
All evening Miss R was trying to wind my future hubby up. He was getting very wound up. There was much stomping.
I made pudding. It was kind of a blancmange ( I say kind of cos not even I am sure what it is) Mr M decided to tell Miss S what he really thought about her. She grabbed the Blancmange and poured it over his groin.
At that point the future hubby and I gave up and went outside leaving them to the food fight. We ended up sitting on benches outside in the cold by the shops that were all now shut. We had our first kiss. I went back to his house with him and we left everyone to clear up, no longer caring about the evenings drama.
