The other day I wrote a post about why I thought Starbucks Rewards suck.
In fact, so unhappy was I that I actually sent an email to Starbucks with a copy of the link. I wanted to tell them what a fan I was and how disappointed I was in their reward scheme.
As part of this I discovered that you don’t get 1 star per coffee.
It is 1 star per transaction!
So however many coffees you buy, if you pay together you only get 1 star!
So of course now I always put it through as 2 transactions and funnily enough I just got my next free coffee voucher through – a matter of weeks after my last one.
In their response they quoted from the VP of marketing’s blog
And they confirmed that it is one star per transaction.
So I don’t know about you, but I now believe it sucks even more than I did before. I really think that a chain that is so much about the coffee – should reward you for buying coffee. Technically you can go in there and buy a bag of crisps each day and get a free coffee quicker than someone like me, who often goes in and gets a few coffees.
I don’t believe the Starbucks Reward card actually rewards loyalty in the same way that competitor loyalty schemes do.
