This morning I headed to school to do the end of year review with the little one’s teacher.
It was supposed to be the two of us but yesterday, while I was in London, the little one caught a sickness bug and spent the day barfing.
Sensibly the school says you should keep them off for 48 after so no school for her today.
It also means she can’t take part in the Christmas concert tonight which is a shame because it was her first ever.
Anyway, she’s a lot better today but as she’s not going to school the hubby stayed at home to look after her while I headed to school to meet with the teacher on my own.
In summary
1. Her numeracy is really good. She can count and rearrange numbers and recognise numbers easily (she can also count to 10 in Welsh which I told the teacher!)
2. She’s good at recognising and forming letters and recognising sounds and words. I told the teacher we are working hard on getting her to the point where she can read because she loves books so much.
3. Her drawing is great. We knew this – she now does eyes with the blue and black bits in the middle and faces have expressions. Combine this with her imagination and we get some great pictures.
4. She loves crafting. Well we knew that too as we do loads at home.
The area to develop is mostly around her social skills. She needs more confidence to speak out at a volume that people can hear. Of course she’s great at being loud in shops etc when you want her to be quiet! But this has always been her biggest area to develop. She’s very quiet and doesn’t speak as clearly as some others. It’s hard for us because we don’t know anyone close with kids so when she’s not at school she’s generally on her own with us. The teacher suggested rainbows and I said I was up for any clubs we could find but didn’t know of any. Of course neither did the teacher – not helpful!
Anyway – all in all a great review.
