In the first week at school (we are now in week 4) the little one’s teacher told us that the gym teacher liked the girls to have their hair tied back. She also said it would prevent nits.
Now as you can see the little one has a short bob style haircut. The hubby can’t put her hair in a ponytail / bunches and quite frankly neither can I. It’s just not a skill I have. I can barely do my own! And with this haircut it’s almost impossible.
Anyway, we use Vosene nit prevention shampoo and hair spray so the nits are not really a bit risk. And her hair being short means it’s pretty good at being out of the way.
But, I tried to adapt so I got clips (and I got her haircut to be a bit tidier) and now I clip her hair back out of the way. Admittedly I could do this better and I’ll practice.
Anyway yesterday, when the hubby dropped the little one off at school (I was in Edinburgh) the teacher once again told him off for not having the little one with her hair in bunches. Once more citing the nit thing.
So today, when I picked her up I spoke to the teacher.
So here’s how the conversation went:
Me: Just to let you know, we use Vosene nit prevention shampoo and spray and the other parents I know say it works really well so it’s not really a worry.
Teacher: Well she needs it up for gym
Me: Well to be honest it’s really hard for the hubby to do that when he brings her in and I’m not much better. But I’m clipping it back so it’s out of the way.
Teacher: Well the gym teacher is really strict about it
Me: Ok well if you let me know what day gym is, I will do my best, but it’s really difficult with the hairstyle she has and when you are no good at it in the first place
Teacher: Well I don’t know what days gym will be and sometimes I take her and sometimes she goes outside so she needs it up all the time.
At this point I could see I was getting nowhere. My conclusion from this conversation is that the teacher thinks the little one should have her hair up in bunches. She is using nits and the PE teacher as an excuse to tell me that I should do this. But basically it really is all about her.
So we left it at an impasse. I have no intention of putting her hair up but I will make an effort to become a lot better at clipping it.
I don’t know why she has decided to focus on the little one.
There are many girls in the school with longer hair that’s not up
There are girls with shorter her that’s not up.
The school does not have a policy that dictates hairstyle.
My worry is that this teacher takes P1-P4 so this is the 4th week of having her for a teacher for 4 years!! erk!
